Midnight Sun Experience in Rovaniemi

Imagine a world where the sun never sets—a golden glow that lingers on the horizon all night long, casting a surreal light over Rovaniemi’s forests and rivers. That’s the Midnight Sun, a phenomenon I’ve come to know intimately while living here and guiding visitors with Lapland X Tours. From early June to mid-July—specifically June 6 to July 6 in Rovaniemi—the sun stays above the horizon 24/7, creating endless days that are both breathtaking and a bit challenging.
As a local guide, I can tell you it’s tricky to sleep when the sun shines around the clock. Even with warm summer temperatures of 18–29°C, the constant daylight can make your body feel like it’s always daytime. I’ve spent many nights marveling at the beauty outside my window, unable to drift off despite the hour. To help, we use special window blinds that make the room completely dark, blocking out the relentless light. But even then, the warm air and the energy of endless days can keep you awake—it’s a unique challenge that adds to the adventure! For visitors, I recommend bringing an eye mask, keeping your room cool, or embracing the late-night energy with a midnight stroll along the Kemijoki River.
The Midnight Sun is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and you can witness it as an optional free add-on during our Rovaniemi: Full Day Tour to Lapland's Best Attractions (Zoo, Waterfalls, Santa Village and Midnight Sun), running from June 15 to September 15. This 8-hour tour takes you to Ranua Zoo, Auttiköngäs Waterfalls, and Santa Claus Village, with a chance to soak in the Midnight Sun’s glow at no extra cost.
